Clare Mulroy Books Reporter

Happy Thursday and happy second week of Pride Month , booklovers! It's the perfect time to pick up a new title by an LGBTQ+ author and celebrate queer stories, especially at a time when LGBTQ+ rights remain under attack

Work your way through these 10 recommended titles that encapsulate just a fraction of the diversity and depth of the LGBTQ+ community. If you're looking for a swoony romance, try "Dream On, Ramona Riley" by Ashley Herring Blake or "Kiss Me, Maybe" by Gabriella Gomez. If you want something steeped in history, try the fictional "Lilac People" by Milo Todd or the biography of Marsha P. Johnson by activist Tourmaline or a nonfiction look at community havens in "Dining Out" by Erik Piepenburg.

10 new books from 2025 that we recommend adding to your shelf this Pride Month

Covers courtesy of Penguin Random House, Hachette, Bloomsbury

One of my favorite queer reads this year was "Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil" by V.E. Schwab, the highly anticipated paranormal epic declaring it "toxic lesbian vampire summer." I chatted with Schwab about how "Bones" is her queerest novel yet and why she wanted a story that lets LGBTQ+ characters be messy and hungry.

And for all you Star Trek fans, check out the new graphic memoir from George Takei, his most intimate telling of his coming out. It's a colorful journey through Takei's childhood, political activism and acting career. In our conversation, Takei told me that not being out felt less like a closet and more like a prison. Check out our full interview to see how Takei feels 20 years after coming out and why he called Trump the "biggest Klingon around."

What are your favorite books from LGBTQ+ authors? Let me know at cmulroy@usatoday.com and thanks for keeping up with USA TODAY Books!

USA TODAY is exclusively announcing the cover and publish date of a new Lauren Roberts novella.

Author James Frey poses at the screening of the film "A Million Little Pieces," in 2019.

Author James Frey slams Oprah in interview: 'Brutal hypocrisy'

Oprah confronted James Frey nearly 15 years ago for lies in his memoir "A Million Little Pieces." He's still writing, and still angry with her today.

Riley Sager's newest suspense novel, "With A Vengeance," releases June 10.

Riley Sager's 'With a Vengeance' is a tense mystery on a train

Anna's plan was simple. Lure the people behind her family's downfall onto a train and confront them. But things get derailed when they start dying.

"Dreaming of Home" by Cristina Jimenez

Why this author didn't expect her book be published during Trump term

Cristina JimΓ©nez, cofounder of the largest immigration youth-led org in the U.S., did not expect her book to be published under the Trump presidency.
