The Saudi East-West oil pipeline, which moves an estimated 7 million barrels a day — about 4% of the global oil supply — across Saudi Arabia to the Red Sea, has been shut down after multiple drone attacks launched from Iraq struck near the pipeline. The closure, recent activity by Houthi rebels near the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, and the war in Iran impacting the Strait of Hormuz have compounded to push crude oil prices up to over $108 a barrel — an impact you could see the next time you fill up at the pump. |

The Supreme Court on Monday declined to let the U.S. Postal Service tighten the use of mail-in ballots ahead of the November midterm elections. The ruling was a loss for Trump, who has challenged the security of mail-in ballots and has pushed for greater federal control of elections, which are administered by states — many of which said the changes can't be implemented in time, which Justice Brett Kavanaugh echoed in the majority ruling. |

Around the world, extreme heat is sneaking out of the summer and spreading both earlier into spring and later into fall, according to a new study. This heat can become even more dangerous when it coincides with seasonal hazards such as wildfire season or the Atlantic hurricane season, amplifying their effects. Researchers can't precisely say how much of this is driven by climate change, but they note it's "the primary component" of the story. |
