Week 1 provided a gut check for a handful of contenders, and Week 2 turns the competition level up several notches. Andy Staples picked up where he left off last year in Week 1, going 5-4 last week and 7-5 on the season. This week will test his ability to stay above .500 against the spread.
Oklahoma (-5.5) at Michigan, Total: 43.5
Michigan looked overwhelmed against Western Michigan last week, and the line has swung from Wolverines favorites to Wolverines underdogs as a result. Michigan coach Kyle Whittingham's lukewarm endorsement of Bryce Underwood as his starter didn't help matters. Unless that performance was an elaborate sandbag job, Oklahoma should be the better team on the field.
Andy's position: Oklahoma -5.5
Alabama (-10.5) at Kentucky, Total: 49.5
Excitement is high in Lexington for the Will Stein era, but a win over Youngstown State doesn't reveal much about how far Kentucky has come. Alabama, meanwhile, showed real improvement running the ball against East Carolina, and new quarterback Keelon Russell flashed the dual-threat ability that makes him dangerous. That gap should show up on the scoreboard.
