[WATCH] Equipping hospital chaplains
Dear Friend,
We received a moving video from Fr. DeWayne Kayser, a chaplain at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. In the video, Fr. Kayser stands in front of a wall of Bibles, rosaries, and prayer resources—all provided for free to his patients and their families. He wanted to share a personal thank you with the Word on Fire community for ensuring that anyone walking into the hospital can find the spiritual nourishment they need at no cost. Watch.

As Fr. Kayser explains, these resources are more than just paper and beads; they are lifelines. From Rosary guides to Bibles, these materials are in high demand because the need for comfort is so great. Your support of the Works of Mercy Fund allows us to provide these materials to chaplains like Fr. Kayser, as well as to those serving in the military, prisons, and impoverished parishes. By giving today, you ensure that the word of God reaches those in the margins who might otherwise never encounter it.

Fr. Kayser shared how these resources even reach the memorial carts used for patients who are actively dying, offering a final moment of peace and prayer for grieving families. He explains that the impact is especially profound within the Hispanic community; the availability of Spanish-language materials makes a world of difference in a time of crisis. Whether it is a staff member seeking strength for their shift or a visitor looking for a reason to hope, your generosity provides the tools they need to encounter Christ.
The mission of the Works of Mercy Fund is to bring the light of the gospel into the darkest corners of our world. We invite you to join us in this mission once more. Please consider making a gift today to help us restock Fr. Kayser’s shelves and fulfill the needs of those thirsting for hope in hospitals, prisons, and beyond.
God bless you,
The Word on Fire Team
