Late in the tenure of President Joe Biden , many observers noted a touch of fogginess in his dealings with the press and public. Some blamed his age.

Now, a similar theme has emerged in coverage of President Donald Trump . The latest headline: When reporters asked about his plan for $2,000 tariff "dividend" checks, Trump replied, "When did I do that?"

Companies dial back workplace perks
