Quick look at Monday's news: |
| • | Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene has long been one of Donald Trump's staunchest MAGA allies. Until now. | | • | Airport staffing is recovering. | | • | Team USA is taking shape ahead of the 2026 Winter Olympics. | |
Why are Marjorie Taylor Greene and Donald Trump fighting? |
President Donald Trump is feuding with one of his most vocal MAGA supporters. |
Fever pitch: Trump withdrew his endorsement of Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia and assigned her a nickname – an act typically reserved for his fiercest political rivals. |
| • | Where it began: The shutdown and Greene's grievances about rising health care costs that Democrats cited as their reason for holding out on voting to open the government and approve a spending package. | | • | The Epstein of it all. The rift also came as Greene works to force the House to vote to release all of the government's records on Jeffrey Epstein. | | • | Then Trump flipped on Epstein. Trump on Sunday called on House Republicans to vote for the full release of files related to Epstein, marking a stunning reversal after previously warning Republicans to stay out of the Epstein "trap." | |
Flight disruptions are over | The Federal Aviation Administration is ending all restrictions on flights at 40 major U.S. airports that were imposed as a result of air traffic control safety concerns amid the government shutdown. According to the FAA, air traffic controller staffing levels have "continued to snap back into place" since the end of the government shutdown. The FAA noted said the move came after reviewing safety trends. |
Immigration agents 'surging' to Charlotte | The arrival of federal agents to Charlotte, North Carolina, comes as President Donald Trump's immigration crackdown expands to more Democratic-run cities — now including Charlotte, led by Democratic Mayor Vi Lyles. Before the announced deployment, Mecklenburg County Sheriff Garry L. McFadden said last week federal officials had not disclosed any specific details about DHS's operation, including how many agents would be sent to the city or what their mission would entail. According to the Charlotte Observer, "masked federal agents" made their presence known Saturday, including at a church in east Charlotte. |
Your favorite gummies are in legal limbo | The legislation that reopened the government also included strict new rules for hemp products that critics say threaten to outlaw mainstream drinks, creams, gummies, oils and vapes. The provision closes a loophole in the 2018 Farm Bill that allowed hemp-derived products containing tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC to be sold. The looming ban could have significant effects on communities where hemp-based consumer products have become an entire industry. |
American athletes are gearing up for the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympics, competing at the highest level to nail a ticket to the games set to begin in Italy this February. The ice was center stage over the weekend: Alysa Liu of California won first place at 2025 Skate America for the first time in her career, promising hope for Team USA (which haven't had a woman win a medal in the single's event since 2006). Meanwhile, U.S. speed skaters collected plenty of hardware at the World Cup. | American Alysa Liu competes in the women's short program at the 2025 Skate America Saturday in Lake Placid, New York.
