Jimmy Kimmel's late-night show has been suspended indefinitely. Charlie Kirk's wife takes over his conservative youth group. And Cracker Barrel isn't done with the backlash. |

Late-night TV takes a hit | Jimmy Kimmel's late-night talk show was suspended indefinitely after the host's comments on the shooting death of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Walt Disney-owned ABC said Wednesday evening that it would stop airing "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" indefinitely after Kimmel's comments about Kirk's assassination came under harsh criticism from the head of the Federal Communications Commission. Some lawmakers, along with former President Barack Obama, as well as celebrities and entertainment groups, have sounded the alarm on the suspension. President Donald Trump and the FCC chairman have defended the decision. 👉 The latest on Kimmel's show being pulled off air. |
What did Kimmel say? In his opening monologue Monday, Kimmel criticized supporters of Trump after the arrest of Tyler Robinson, the 22-year-old charged in Kirk's killing. He said the "MAGA gang" was "desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them." Robinson's mother has told police her son had "started to lean more to the left" over the past year or so, according to court documents. 👉 Watch Kimmel's comments on Kirk. |
More crackdowns? Trump said overwhelming negative coverage about him by television networks should be grounds for the Federal Communications Commission to revoke broadcast licenses. Trump made the suggestion as he defended FCC chairman Brendan Carr for pressuring ABC to pull comedian Kimmel's late-night show off the airwaves. 👉 What Trump said. | Jimmy Kimmel delivers the opening monologue at the 96th Academy Awards in Los Angeles on March 10, 2024. Can there be a shake-up to the Fed? | The Trump administration asked the Supreme Court on Thursday to let the president remove Lisa Cook from the Federal Reserve board. The move is a major test of the central bank's long-standing independence. In May, the high court said Trump could fire without cause members of two such agencies that deal with labor issues. But the majority also notably said the Federal Reserve is different from the other agencies, calling the central bank a "uniquely structured, quasi-private entity." No president has ever tried to fire a Fed governor since Congress created the board in 1913. 👉 Why Trump wants to fire Cook. | Lisa Cook testifies before a Senate Banking Committee hearing in June 2023 on her nomination for a second term on the Federal Reserve Board of Governors. The new leader of this conservative group | Turning Point USA, the conservative youth activist organization founded by Charlie Kirk, announced Thursday that his widow, Erika Kirk, will be the new CEO after the co-founder was killed last week by a gunman in Utah. The group said in an X post that its board unanimously elected Erika Kirk its new CEO and chair of the board. Turning Point USA was founded by Charlie Kirk in 2012 when he was 18. It became a presence on hundreds of college and high school campuses, hosted conferences, encouraged youth organizing on conservative issues, and produced various media such as the "The Charlie Kirk Show." 👉 Why Erika Kirk was chosen to lead the organization. | Charlie Kirk and his wife Erika Kirk on stage during the Turning Point USA Inaugural-Eve Ball at the Salamander Hotel on January 19, 2025, in Washington, DC. Cracker Barrel backlash isn't over | The backlash against Cracker Barrel wasn't just online. Cracker Barrel leaders said traffic to the restaurant has dropped, and the company has adjusted its financial outlook for 2026 after the viral logo change. Traffic has declined about 8% since Aug. 19, the date of the official logo change, said Craig Pemmelis, the company's chief financial officer. The company now expects a further decline of 7% to 8% if trends continue. The restaurant changed its logo back to the original "Old Timer" design after an outcry online, including from President Donald Trump. 👉 Why leaders are still optimistic despite less traffic. | Cracker Barrel's new logo didn't go over well with customers, so it has returned to its classic design.
