Search and rescue efforts are underway in flood-ravaged Texas. The feud between the president and his former billionaire ally has reached new heights. And there's drama surrounding "Love Island USA." |
👋 Hi! Rebecca Morin here. It was a long holiday weekend that was jam-packed with news. Let me catch you up! | Rescue teams are looking for signs of life after central Texas was ravaged by storms over the weekend. At least 90 people have died from catastrophic flooding after heavy rain battered the area, including at least 27 children and counselors from Camp Mystic, a beloved all-girls summer camp in Kerr County. At least 10 girls and one counselor were still missing, Kerr County Sheriff Larry Leitha said at a news conference Monday. As rescuers search for the missing by air, land and water, multiple flash flood warnings remained active across the Hill Country. 👉 Follow the latest updates on the tragedy. |

Musk starts his own party | Billionaire Elon Musk and President Donald Trump's breakup has gotten messier. The feud between the two was reignited after Musk criticized Trump's big legislative package of tax reductions and Medicaid cuts, which passed Congress last week. One day after Trump signed the legislation into law, Musk announced he was forming a new political party called the "America Party." Trump has accused his former ally of going "completely 'off the rails.'" 👉 What Trump said about Musk. | President Donald Trump says his former right-hand man Elon Musk is going "off the rails." Tropical Depression Chantal is hitting the mid-Atlantic on Monday, and it's expected to bring several inches of rain across a handful of states. In North Carolina, major flood warnings were in place near Durham, and town officials in Chapel Hill evacuated homes in the area because of flash flooding. A flood watch was in effect Monday for Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. "Life-threatening surf and rip current conditions" are expected for the next day or two at beaches along the East Coast from northeastern Florida to the mid-Atlantic states. 🌧️ See the forecast for your area. |
An abrupt 'Love Island' exit | "Love Island USA" contestant Cierra Ortega has left the villa. Her removal comes days after past social media posts using a racial slur surfaced online and a week before the Season 7 finale. The show said Ortega, 25, had left because of a "personal" situation. Viewers had resurfaced multiple posts of Ortega's that used a racist slur against Asian people, including one as recently as 2023, according to People. Ortega's parents released a statement on her Instagram stories on her behalf, noting Ortega and her loved ones have been threatened and sent "cruel messages." 👉 What to know about Ortega's departure. | Cierra Ortega is no longer in play on "Love Island USA."
