The presidential election has hit the home stretch. Forecasters are keeping a close eye on two storm systems in the Atlantic Ocean. And giant pandas are back at the National Zoo.

👋Hey, there! Laura Davis here, checking in from Florida. Last week, unfortunately, found myself in the path of Hurricane Milton. We are storm-weary – but safe. Please keep those affected by the recent hurricanes in your thoughts. Now, let's get to the news.

But first: Fridge check! 🛑 A recall of nearly 10 million pounds of meat hit hundreds of products sold at Trader Joe's, Target, Aldi and more.

Got your ballot ready?

Election Day is just three weeks away. So, what are the candidates up to in the final stretch? Vice President Kamala Harris on Tuesday was scheduled to join radio host Charlamagne tha God for a conversation in Detroit, among other stops in the pivotal state of Michigan. Meanwhile, former President Donald Trump took questions during an interview at the Economic Club of Chicago − although he declined to answer several − and is set to deliver remarks Tuesday evening in Atlanta, another pivotal swing state. 👉 See more live updates from today.

US condemns Israel hospital strike

The Biden administration on Tuesday condemned Israeli airstrikes on a hospital compound in the Gaza Strip that ignited a nearby tent encampment where displaced Palestinians had sought refuge.

What happened? At least four Palestinians were killed and dozens of others, including children, were injured in the Monday night attack, which set tents ablaze and reportedly sent survivors fleeing from one tent to another. Videos appeared to show one man being burned alive.

What they're saying: "Israel has a responsibility to do more to avoid civilian casualties – and what happened here is horrifying, even if Hamas was operating near the hospital in an attempt to use civilians as human shields," said Sean Savett, a spokesman for the National Security Council. 👉 What we know about the strike.

US warns Israel to increase Gaza aid or risk losing access to weapons.

Eyes on 2 systems in the Atlantic

Is something brewing out there? After Florida was battered by two once-in-a-generation storms in a matter of weeks, the National Hurricane Center said Tuesday that it is tracking two systems in the Atlantic basin. One of the storm systems, located off the westernmost coast of Africa, has a 60% chance of forming into a tropical depression by the end of the week as it moves westward over warmer waters. Another storm system is at risk for development in the western Caribbean over the next week. 🌀 See more about the systems.

All aboard the Panda Express!

The giant pandas have returned to the nation's capital. Nearly a year after the National Zoo's longtime resident panda headed back to China, a new pair had arrived to replace them. Three-year-old male Bao Li and female Qing Bao landed at Dulles International Airport on a FedEx cargo plane, known as the "Panda Express," and embarked on their journey to the National Zoo, where they will be in quarantine while they get used to their new surroundings. For the next 10 years, the pair will be on loan in the U.S. as part of an agreement with China. 🐼 Get to know the National Zoo's new residents.
