A massive meat recall prompted by listeria concerns is affecting products in some of America's most popular grocery stores. Unlike cannabis, legal psychedelics aren't likely to turn into a billion dollar industry anytime soon. Sean "Diddy" Combs is accused of sexually assaulting a minor.

Meat recall affects hundreds of products at Walmart, Target, Publix and more

Sandwiches, wraps and salads are the primary prepared foods affected by a nearly 10 million-pound meat recall. The impacted products can be found in some of America's top grocers, including Walmart, Public, Target, Aldi, Amazon, Trader Joe's and more.

What happened: Pre-cooked meat producer BrucePac issued a massive recall of ready-to-eat meat and poultry products due to possible listeria contamination last week.

But affected products were shipped to establishments and distributors nationwideImpacted foods have production dates as late as Oct. 8, meaning they are likely still in consumers' fridges or freezers and available on shelves, in restaurants and at other establishments.
Check your fridge and freezer: Items containing chicken products ranging from pastas and burritos to bowls and family meals are affected. Items produced from June 19, 2024 to October 8, 2024, with establishment numbers "51205 or P-51205" on the packaging, are subject to the recall. Find a full and expanding list of stores and brands impacted here.
What to do if you have a recalled product: The USDA advises consumers who have purchased these products not to eat them and instead throw them away or return them to the place of purchase.

The threats that outlast a hurricane

Communities affected by Hurricane Helene have been battling an array of public health challenges in the aftermath of the historic deluge in late September, including risk of exposure to sewage, toxic industrial waste and mosquito-borne illnesses. Potable water is scarce. Overwhelmed hospitals are struggling to treat new and existing patients as they cart in truckloads of water and dig new wells. These effects have exacerbated issues that already face Americans in rural areas.

Five more bird flu cases suspected among California dairy workers

Five more people who presumably contracted the bird flu are being tested amid outbreaks in California's dairy industry, health officials confirmed Monday, meaning there are a total of six confirmed cases in the state. California officials said the risk to the general public remains low. There are no known links between the six confirmed cases, which suggests there is widespread transmission among dairy herds and that the infected cattle pose risks to people working near them. Legal psychedelics could mean high costs

Massachusetts could soon become the third state to take the leap if voters there approve a November ballot measure permitting adults over 21 to use five types of plant-based psychedelics. But as the psychedelics industry begins to take shape, it's running into roadblocks that cannabis never did. People who follow this industry say the psychedelics movement is a far cry from weed efforts 2.0. The way people access psychedelics in states where they're legal is worlds different from simply buying cannabis at a dispensary – and it's thousands of dollars more expensive, too.
