Hi OnPolitics readers. Former President Donald Trump faces his fourth set of criminal charges after he was indicted in Georgia late Monday night.

🏃 Catch up: A grand jury leveled a sweeping indictment made up of 41 charges against 19 defendants over efforts to flip the state during the 2020 election. You've probably heard of the Republican allies named alongside Trump, such as Trump's former lawyer Rudy Giuliani and his former White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows.

Wasn't Trump already charged over 2020? Yes, but this is slightly different. A federal grand jury indicted Trump earlier this month for conspiring to steal the 2020 election. But Georgia officials began investigating Trump's actions targeting their state after the election too.

⚖️ The legal case in Georgia centers on the state's RICO statute: the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act. It's a type of measure that typically targets people engaged in organized crime.  The case also takes aim at a pressure campaign on state election workers, a scheme to use so-called fake electors and more.

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis said the indicted individuals have until Aug. 25 to surrender or face arrest warrants. Other Fulton County officials have already said Trump would be treated like any other defendant , and that includes fingerprints and a mug shot.
