I have a lot of respect for Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.
During COVID, the Republican governor showed how it was possible to give citizens freedom – and get children back in school – at a time when most blue states locked down businesses and classrooms far longer than they needed to.
He has proven an effective conservative governor, and many see him as a strong presidential candidate for 2024, regardless of whether former President Donald Trump stays in the race.

DeSantis' stand for freedom is admirable. So it makes me question some of his recent efforts to combat the "woke mob" at academic institutions. His frustrations are understandable and shared by many on the right, but he's trying to use the government to control what is said on public college campuses. That feels too much like an attack on free speech – right conservatives have long said they wanted on the quad.
In my view, DeSantis is taking this fight too far, and it could backfire on him and his political ambitions. That's what I write about in my latest column. I'd love to hear what you think.
