Talking Tech: iOS 16: Three of my favorite features

Apple released iOS 16 for the iPhone on Monday. Having spent a couple days using it, here are three of my favorite features so far. ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌

Talking Tech

Thursday, September 15

It's Thursday. Happy iPhone 14 eve, Talking Tech readers. It's Brett Molina here with your top tech headlines.

If you own an iPhone, then you know iOS 16 launched Monday, ahead of the iPhone 14's Friday launch. It's the latest update aimed at sprucing up those older iPhones, which is great if you're not among those who preordered new iPhones last week.

While iPhone owners get to play around with new features, Android fans are likely rolling their eyes and saying "whatever," knowing they've been using some of these features on their phones for a while now.

I jumped on iOS 16 Monday. Here are three of my favorite features so far.

1. The new lock screens. Finally, lock screens with personality. You can change the font on the clock, or add a variety of widgets to give them a more functional purpose. You can also create special lock screens for Focus mode if you want to quickly shift between work and personal time.

2. The new clip and paste for photos. I'd argue this might be my favorite feature overall. You can go to an image in the Photos app, isolate an object and the app can automatically cut it out for you to copy and paste into a message. It works really well and it is so much fun.

3. Edit typos in messages. Yes, you can now edit Messages after you've sent them, but with caveats. There's a 15-minute window to edit after the message is sent. Also, your error doesn't actually disappear. The recipient can still tap their screen to view the original message.

Got any favorite iOS 16 features? Let me know on Twitter.

One more thing

I tried out the new Apple Watch Series 8, available to buy Friday. If you bought a newer Apple Watch, you're not missing out on much. And if you're in the market for your first smartwatch, I'd consider the Apple Watch SE. It's cheaper and gives you most of the important features. Having said that, Apple knows how to make a really nice smartwatch, and Series 8 is no different.

Until next week. Thanks for reading!
