Talking Tech: We say goodbye to Internet Explorer

If you're reading this, it's not on Internet Explorer because Microsoft retired the long-running web browser for 27 years. ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌

Talking Tech

Thursday, June 16

It's Thursday, Talking Tech readers. The weekend is within reach. It's Brett Molina back to deliver your top tech headlines.

And we're kicking off with a goodbye. If you're reading this, it's not on Internet Explorer, because Microsoft retired the longtime web browser after 27 years.

If you try to click on the IE icon, you'll get redirected to Microsoft Edge, the new and improved successor to Explorer.

IE had been a staple for PCs for years. For some users, it was essential for exactly what its name implies: exploring the web. But over time, the browser showed its age, bested by alternatives in Google Chrome and Mozilla's Firefox.

But, look, 27 years is a pretty good run in tech.

What else happened in tech?

Want to upgrade to an electric vehicle? Before you decide, make sure to read this piece weighing the pros and con of ditching gas.

New perks for T-Mobile customers. The wireless carrier is expanding coverage internationally – and offering a discount of 25 cents per gallon of gas at Shell stations.

Delivered by drone. Amazon is rolling out Prime Air, its new service where you can order items that are dropped off by autonomous drone.

An app a day keeps the doctor away? Among the big updates Apple has planned this fall are several aimed at keeping you healthy.

Thursday's tech tip

Autopay can provide a convenient way to pay your wireless or broadband bills, and some providers offer discounts or other incentives. Just make sure you read the fine print first.

One final note: In honor of all the students, parents, teachers and anyone else who's wrapping up the school year, I dedicate this track to you: "School's Out" by Alice Cooper.
