Growing up in Del Rio, Texas, Bruno Lozano was bullied for being gay and flamboyant, so he never saw it as a place where he could ever build a future. But, after serving in the military and traveling the world, he returned to his hometown and, in 2018, became Del Rio's first openly gay mayor.

All week long, Zoe Saldana and BESE are teaming up with Great Big Story to shine a light on American Latinx excellence around the country.
