Florida lawmakers fully approved the state's first gun control measures in two decades Wednesday evening, a bill named after the Parkland high school where a gunman killed 17 people last month. The legislation, called an infringement by the National Rifle Association, would up the minimum age for gun buys and impose a three-day waiting period.

But the bill would also arm some teachers and school staff - a potential no-go for Florida's governor, who now holds the power to make it law. Parkland parents rallied behind the legislation. Teachers opposed it

"There's good and bad in this bill," said Scott Mazur, president of the Leon County Classroom Teachers Association. "I guess it comes down to morals."

Stormy wants to speak

Adult film star Stormy Daniels has filed a lawsuit to nix a "hush" agreement she signed days before Trump's election, with her lawyer saying she wants to "set the record straight" and clarify the reported affair that occurred between her and the president. A $130,000 payment for Daniels' silence may have violated federal law, though the White House said it won an arbitration case against Daniels.

Trump affect? A Democratic wave rises in red Texas

Democrats turned out in relatively massive numbers for the state's midterm primary elections Tuesday, an uptick the party sees as a sign of energy in the Trump era. But let's keep in it perspective: Republicans in the right-leaning state cast a record 1.5 million ballots. But Dems saw a bigger surge, putting several women in the running in state where men dominate politics, USA TODAY's Nicole Gaudiano reports. And Latina Democrats seem positioned make history as Texas' first Latina lawmakers in Washington.

With Cohn gone, it's tariff time

President Trump will reportedly sign off on new tariffs on steel and aluminum exports Thursday, despite warnings from economists and Republicans who say they could set off a trade war . Among those skeptics is Gary Cohn, Trump's outgoing chief economic adviser, who resigned Tuesday. His announcement rattled financial markets on Wednesday, a sign that Wall Street thinks a steady hand is leaving the White House.
