OnPolitics Today: Sick? You might not like the GOP's latest health bill

The Senate dropped a new version of its beleaguered health bill Thursday, tacking on a Ted Cruz proposal in order to win over conservatives like Ted Cruz. It basically lets people buy cheap, bare-bones insurance plans alongside more robust, Obamacare-compliant plans.

Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas,, second from left, waits for

That's good news for the healthy, and bad news for the sick: If healthy folks flock to cheaper plans, the other plans covering pre-existing conditions will grow more expensive - destabilizing the market in the process, insurance companies say.

Also on Wednesday: President Trump checked out the body of France's first lady and it wasn't weird at all, plus an early week in review (we're taking Bastile Day off). On y va!

What the GOP's new health bill could mean for you

Big companies would no longer face penalties for not offering insurance plans to employees, so fewer likely would. Requirements that most buy insurance would effectively vanish, too. Those in their 60s could pay five times as much for their coverage - or more.

The bill ups funding to states for addiction services, to $45 billion, and plans sold through exchanges would not cover most abortions. Read more details on the bill, and see five hurdles Republicans face in passing it.

(Oh, and we learned 400-plus medical professionals were charged with health care fraud on Thursday. So that's great.)

Trump checks out France, and its first lady

President Trump, in Paris for Bastille Day, gazed up and down at France's first lady, Brigitte Macron, and told her he approved of her body: "You know, you're in such great shape...beautiful." Trump comments on women's appearances a lot.

He recently admired an Irish reporter's "nice smile," crudely insulted a TV host's face and famously  bragged about groping women  aboard and Access Hollywood bus. So that's who leads our country now.

Kid Rock's campaign, Don Jr.'s emails and the next FBI director: What a week!

Your week in review: Kid Rock teased that he's launching a Senate campaign, after a committee formed to back The Rock for a 2020 presidential bid, while  Donald Trump Jr. released emails about his invitation to receive incriminating information about Hillary Clinton from the Russian government, his documented acceptance of which may not be treason but is nonetheless  legally perilous . Also Chris Wray, Trump's FBI pick, had a pretty low-key confirmation hearing.
