This week in OnPolitics: Georgia on our minds

Happy Friday, OP friends! Somehow, the final weekend of June is already upon us (yes, really, look at your calendar) and we're 22 weeks into the Trump administration and we don't know what do with ourselves.

Georgia's 6th Congressional district Republican candidate

So let's just recap the big things of the week and get to the first weekend of summer.

Georgia, Georgia

So, that referendum on the Trump administration once again didn't come. Or did it? Depends on who you ask. You can say that the Republicans winning their third and fourth special election this year (because reminder, South Carolina also had a special election this week ) is a clear sign that the country supports President Trump's agenda. Or you can say that, given how close each of those elections were, and given that they were in Republican districts, the fact that Democrats made any gains at all is a big deal and 2018 is theirs for the taking.

Regardless of how you feel about it, Karen Handel is the one who will soon represent Georgia's 6th congressional district.

No peace I find

The Senate dropped its health care bill on Thursday, and...well, there's a lot to go over. Let's start with the basics: It deeply cuts Medicaid. It repeals taxes on insurance companies and rich Americans. Say goodbye to the mandate that everyone needs to be insured and to funding for Planned Parenthood for a year.

Sen. Mitch McConnell says a vote on the bill is coming NEXT WEEK after 20 HOURS OF DEBATE, but if such procedures give you the shivers, don't worry: Five Republican senators have come out in opposition of the bill (four of whom are taking the same line that hardliners over in the House did - do more to dismantle Obamacare - and one who is already being targeted for the 2018 election). McConnell can only lose two.

And if this all sounds like something you've heard before, trust us, we know.

Just an old sweet song

Meanwhile, there's a battle being waged over in the White House over on-camera press briefings (namely, that Sean Spicer and friends have stopped doing them on a daily basis in favor of off-camera gaggles). We know some of you probably don't care all that much about this, because it's as insider baseball as you can get. But it did produce these wonderful drawings from CNN's courtroom sketch artist, and for that, we will be forever grateful.
