| | | with Jessica Estepa | Happy Friday, OnPolitics friends. Fun fact: Today is the one-month anniversary since James Comey was fired. | Yes, you read that correctly. It's only been a month. Time is such a funny thing. | While we contemplate why it feels like it's been a year, you can subscribe here. | #ComeyDay | There was a lot packed into Comey's testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee on Thursday. We figure the best way to address at least some of it is by bullet point: | • | Comey believes he was fired because of the ongoing investigation into whether there was collusion between Russia and the Trump campaign | • | He interpreted words from President Trump to mean that he should drop the probe into ex-national security adviser Michael Flynn | • | He admitted to leaking memos to the press to spur the appointment of a special counsel (and that he started preparing said memos as a "just in case" after his first interaction with Trump) | • | He may have a future as a fiction writer, based on this bit from his written testimony: "A few moments later, the President said, 'I need loyalty, I expect loyalty.' I didn't move, speak, or change my facial expression in any way during the awkward silence that followed. We simply looked at each other in silence." | • | "Lordy, I hope there are tapes." | | The biggest takeaway: Comey does not think Trump can be trusted. | And for his part, Trump doesn't think too highly of Comey, either. He basically accused Comey of lying under oath when, after an absence from Twitter for 2,753 minutes, he said, "Despite so many false statements and lies, total and complete vindication...and WOW, Comey is a leaker!" And he'll 100% testify under oath on what exactly he said to Comey. | #InfrastructureWeek | In an attempt to change the narrative about the week, the White House celebrated Infrastructure Week. We can't deny that Trump has plans. He wants to privatize the nation's air traffic control system. He spoke about the country's aging system of levees, dams and locks. He met with state and local officials. And he proposed creating a council...that already exists. Now all they have to do is, you know, write up said plans in an official manner. | #ForeignPolicyYear | As a world leader, President Trump is inevitably involved foreign policy discussions. If only he and his top diplomat could agree on the tone of their messaging . On Friday, he slammed Qatar as a "funder of terrorism." That was hours of Secretary of State Rex Tillerson called on other Middle Eastern countries to ease their blockade of Qatar, which is home to a major U.S. military presence. In other beyond America First news, the president will visit Poland ahead of the G20 summit in July. | | MOST SHARED STORIES FROM USA TODAY | | | | | | | FOLLOW US
