Hi there OnPolitics readers. The House is in its 21st day without a speaker, and while Republicans have picked their third nominee, uncertainty is still ruling in the lower chamber.

Who's next? House Majority Whip Tom Emmer, R-Minn., who won the Republican nomination in an internal vote on Tuesday.

Reminder: that's the same stamp of approval that Reps. Steve Scalise, R-La., and Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, received before they failed to be crowned speaker of the House.

🔮 Are Emmer's odds any different? Unfortunately, it doesn't look like Emmer immediately received the near-unanimous Republican support he would need to become speaker of the House. There are at least 20 GOP holdouts against Emmer, USA TODAY's Ken Tran reports.

↪️ So what happens next? Emmer started fielding questions from some of his Republican holdouts after he was nominated, but it's not clear he'll be able to persuade them. Lawmakers could start holding votes with the full House, including Democrats, at any time.
