The House is in its 21st day without a speaker, and while Republicans have picked their third nominee, uncertainty is still ruling in the lower chamber. Who's next? House Majority Whip Tom Emmer, R-Minn., who won the Republican nomination in an internal vote on Tuesday. Reminder: that's the same stamp of approval that Reps. Steve Scalise, R-La., and Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, received before they failed to be crowned speaker of the House.   🔮 Are Emmer's odds any different? Unfortunately, it doesn't look like Emmer immediately received the near-unanimous Republican support he would need to become speaker of the House. There are at least 20 GOP holdouts against Emmer, USA TODAY's Ken Tran reports. ↪️ So what happens next? Emmer started fielding questions from some of his Republican holdouts after he was nominated, but it's not clear he'll be able to persuade them.
