Ashley Wagner: 'I chose to speak up' |
| Olympic figure skater Ashley Wagner came forward this week with a powerful story of sexual assault. In a first-person piece and pulls-no-punches video, Wagner detailed how fellow skater John Coughlin sexually assaulted her when she was 17 and Coughlin was 22. (Coughlin died by suicide in January.) So why is she coming forward now? She says the #MeToo movement put her assault into context and because she wants to protect other young skaters. Wagner is the highest-profile skater to publicly share allegations of sexual assault in her sport. |
| "This is a pressure-cooker environment that will continue to create uncomfortable, inappropriate and unsafe workplaces unless something is done about it," she said. "I want kids to be able to stay kids in this sport." |
Houston, we found a 'super-Earth' |
| A potentially habitable "super-Earth" was discovered just 31 light-years away from our own solar system, astronomers announced Wednesday. The planet, with the super catchy name GJ 357 d, is about six times bigger than Earth and orbits a dwarf sun, much smaller than our own, every 55.7 days. The team of astronomers that discovered the planet said it could provide "Earth-like" conditions. But two questions remain: Is it actually habitable? And more importantly – if it shows signs of life – are we alone in the cosmos? |

| After surviving a horrendous mass shooting at a Las Vegas festival in 2017 that left 58 people dead, Alice Olive found solace in a Facebook support group for fellow survivors, where she met Christopher Cook and George Cook. Olive says it has taken her two years to get comfortable with the idea of attending another big outdoor music event. |

Julianne Hough: 'I'm not straight' |
| Julianne Hough is opening up about her sexuality. The "America's Got Talent" judge told Women's Health that her journey of self-discovery came four months after tying the knot with husband Brooks Laich in 2017. "I [told him], 'You know I'm not straight, right?' And he was like, 'I'm sorry, what?' I was like, 'I'm not. But I choose to be with you,'" she said. After opening up to her professional hockey player husband, she said the two have a more intimate relationship. "The more I dropped into my most authentic self, the more attracted he was to me," she said. |
