Morning! Welcome to the Daily Briefing. Check out these headlines: |
Nicole Fallert here, bringing you the news to know on Wednesday, from that pay raise you want and President Donald Trump's message on affordability. And we unpack something called "Ozempic vagina." |
Looking for a raise or promotion in 2026? | Anticipate a "no." On average, employers plan to hold base salary increases for merit at 3.2%, and total increases at 3.5%, which encompasses all salary increases, including for merit, promotions, cost-of-living and other adjustments, in 2026, according to a new Mercer survey reviewed by USA TODAY. Coupled with inflation still around 3%, above the Federal Reserve's 2% target, most Americans likely won't see a step up in their lifestyles, experts said. Meanwhile, the Fed meets today to discuss if they'll cut interest rates again. |
| • | Insurance costs are about to soar. Senate Republicans want to send money directly to Americans rather than extend Affordable Care Act subsidies that have lowered health insurance costs for millions of Americans. | | • | Pressure from the "Gang of Eight." A bipartisan group of top lawmakers that routinely receives briefings on classified intelligence matters are ramping up pressure on military leaders to show them unedited video of the much-scrutinized lethal strikes in September on suspected drug smuggling boats from Venezuela. | | • | Get kids offline? Starting Wednesday, Australia is the first country to ban social media for kids under 16. The move leaves many parents and mental health advocates celebrating — and wondering if something similar could ever be enforced in the U.S. | |
Trump's answer on affordability | President Donald Trump delivers remarks on the economy at the Mount Airy Casino Resort in Mount Pocono, Pennsylvania, on Tuesday. Jonathan Ernst, REUTERS |
For much of the one-hour and 35-minute speech to a Pennsylvania crowd, President Donald Trump meandered away from the economic-themed speech that was purpose of the rally. At one point, the president turned to a series of charts to compare costs under his watch versus higher inflation under former President Joe Biden. The rally marked a return to the campaign for Trump less than a year out from the midterm elections — and Trump clearly enjoyed being back in a campaign-rally setting. |
How GLP-1s may impact our sex lives |
As GLP-1s rise in popularity, we've learned of side effects like "Ozempic breasts" and "Ozempic face." Now, another has come to light: "Ozempic vagina." It is not a medical diagnosis, but is colloquially used to refer to vaginal changes that may take place due to GLP-1s' impact on muscle mass, hormones and the gastrointestinal system. Symptoms associated with a weakened pelvic floor include bladder leakage and painful sex. |
