Thousands of protesters channel a civil rights icon in anti-Trump protests. It's time to celebrate, Little Monsters, because Mother Monster kicked off her tour. And it's the 70th birthday of the theme park that changed everything.

👋 How's it going? Rebecca Morin here. Don't know about you, but I'm ready for the weekend! Let's catch up on the latest first!

But first: A concert affair? 💕 A couple were embracing at a Coldplay concert when they appeared on the big screen – and immediately tried to hide their faces.

Anti-Trump protesters embrace a civil rights icon

Thousands of Americans across the country are hoping to cause some "good trouble." Protests against President Donald Trump's policies are being held across 1,600 cities and towns on Thursday, the fifth anniversary of the death of civil rights activist and Georgia Congressman John Lewis. Lewis often said he got into "good trouble" by using peaceful, non-violent action to challenge injustice. Activists say they're turning out for an array of reasons, from demonstrating against Trump's signature budget bill to efforts targeting reproductive rights to immigration policy. The Good Trouble protests follow the No Kings protests on June 14, which drew millions of Americans at more than 2,000 locations across the country. 👉 Follow the latest from protests across the county.

GOP moves to slash funding for PBS, NPR

Republican lawmakers are on track to slash more federal spending. The Senate narrowly approved a spending-cut package that will cut $9 billion in federal funds for public broadcasting, such as PBS and NPR, global health initiatives, including the World Health Organization, and other foreign aid programs. The legislation, formally requested by Trump in early June, represents a sliver of the nearly $200 billion in government savings the Department of Government Efficiency reports it has made. The legislation now goes to the House for approval. 👉 Here are the programs that are impacted.

Ready for some Mayhem?

Welcome to Lady Gaga's house, where melodrama and "mayhem" meet. Gaga kicked off her North American Mayhem Ball tour on Wednesday at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The two-hour long performance had fans putting their paws up to hits from her latest studio album, like "Abracadabra," to Gaga classics like "LoveGame" and "Born This Way." Gaga is slated to hit multiple arena dates, including two more in Vegas, and stops in Seattle, San Francisco, New York, Miami and Chicago. As someone who's been to multiple Gaga concerts (my first major concert being her Monster Ball tour!), there's nothing like getting dressed up and dancing to the iconic pop star. 🎤 Read our review of her concert.

Celebrating the 'Happiest Place on Earth'

Blow out the candles and make a wish! Happy birthday to Disneyland, which opened its doors 70 years ago on this day. Festivities to celebrate the milestone kicked off back in May but are lasting all summer long as longtime park goers and first timers celebrate the Happiest Place on Earth. While Disneyland was by no means the first amusement park, it was the blueprint for theme parks we see today. Jakob Wahl, president and CEO of the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions, said Disneyland was "really this concept of full immersion and a full themed experience connected with a storyline." 🎟️ How Disneyland revolutionized the theme park.
