The family of the suspect in the attack on peaceful Jewish marchers in Boulder, Colorado, has been detained by immigration authorities. An escaped New Orleans inmate posted online. And bad blood is brewing between Elon Musk and President Donald Trump's tax bill. |
👋 Hello! Rebecca Morin here. Oh, would you look at that? It's Tuesday's news! |
Boulder attack suspect's family detained | The wife and five children of Mohamed Sabry Soliman, the suspect in the fiery assault on Jewish demonstrators in Boulder, Colorado, have been detained by immigration officials, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said Tuesday. Noem said in a post on X that DHS is investigating what the family knew about the attack and whether they had knowledge of or provided support for it. Twelve people, ages 52 to 88, suffered burns ranging from serious to minor, police said. Two remained hospitalized. 👉 Follow the latest updates on the Boulder attack. |
A yearlong plot: Court records and interviews paint a chilling picture of Soliman's yearlong plot to firebomb a pro-Israel protest walk on a sunny Sunday afternoon, authorities said. Investigators said Soliman took a class in concealed weapons to learn how to fire a gun but discovered he couldn't buy one because of his immigration status. He turned to Molotov cocktails for the attack. 👉 How a father of 5 turned into a terror suspect. | Flowers hang on a barricade outside of the Boulder County Courthouse on Pearl Street on June 2, 2025, in Boulder, Colo. New Orleans inmate posts to social media | A possible break in the case? A video posted Sunday on Instagram by a man claiming to be Antoine Massey, an inmate who escaped from a New Orleans jail in May, could help authorities capture the remaining fugitives. Eight of the 10 inmates who escaped from the Orleans Parish jail through a hole behind a toilet on May 16 have been captured. Massey, 32, and Derrick Groves, 27, were still at large. In the video, the man denies claims he was the mastermind behind the jailbreak and proclaimed his innocence, soliciting help from a litany of celebrities – including President Donald Trump and rapper Meek Mill. 👉 How the video offers a big break for authorities. | A screen grab from security video shows inmates running through the loading dock May 16 at the Orleans Parish Justice Center in New Orleans. Musk trashes Trump's tax bill | Siri, play "Bad Blood" by Taylor Swift. Elon Musk, who until last week was a fixture at the White House and a key ally of the president, on Tuesday trashed President Donald Trump's sweeping tax and domestic policy bill. Musk called the bill a "disgusting abomination" and criticized lawmakers who voted for it. The Senate is considering the legislation, which would extend Trump's 2017 tax cuts, implement new tax breaks for tipped wages and overtime, overhaul Medicaid and food stamps, and allocate more money toward Trump's immigrant deportation plan. 👉 What Musk said about the bill. |
GOP backlash: Some Republican lawmakers have also voiced concern about the bill. Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul said he opposes the bill because it would raise the debt ceiling − drawing the ire of the president. Trump lashed out at Paul, saying he "votes no on everything." Trump can afford to lose the support of only three Republicans to pass the bill. 👉 See what changes some GOP lawmakers want to see. | President Donald Trump and Elon Musk attend a press conference in the Oval Office of the White House on May 30. Actor Jonathan Joss dies in shooting | Jonathan Joss, an actor best known for voicing John Redcorn on "King of the Hill" and playing Ken Hotate on NBC's "Parks and Recreation," was shot and killed in Texas. Joss, 59, was found near a roadway in San Antonio after police responded to a report of a shooting. Officers "attempted life-saving measures" until EMS arrived and pronounced him dead. The suspect, Sigfredo Alvarez Ceja, 56, was detained and booked on a murder charge. Police were still investigating. Joss's husband, Tristan Kern de Gonzales, says the shooter yelled homophobic slurs at the couple. But police told USA TODAY there is no evidence the killing was related to Joss's sexual orientation. 👉 'Parks and Rec' costars paid tribute to Joss. |
