Remembering the Beach Boys' Brian Wilson

His songs defined a generation of American music. Brian Wilson, an eclectic genius who co-founded the Beach Boys, died at age 82 on Wednesday. Wilson's family announced his death on social media and did not cite a cause. Wilson's epic career arc spanned most of his life and was as defined by prolonged bouts of mental illness as it was by meticulously constructed pop confections. Wilson is survived by daughters from his first marriage, Carnie and Wendy, who achieved success as part of Wilson Phillips, and five adopted children from his second marriage to Melinda Ledbetter. 👉  More on Wilson's life.

Hundreds arrested after LA curfews

The curfew in Los Angeles isn't ending just yet. Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass said Wednesday that the curfew will continue as long as needed, saying it's contingent on continued federal response. Protesters took to the streets in a downtown section of Los Angeles on Tuesday, where 225 people were arrested that night. Most of the arrests were on failure-to-disperse charges, while others involved curfew violations, possession of a firearm and assault on a police officer, according to police. The protests came in response to Immigration and Customs Enforcement sweeps spurred by President Donald Trump's directive to find undocumented immigrants. The protests prompted Trump to send 4,000 National Guard troops and 700 Marines to the city.

Charges for firebombs: Two people have been charged with throwing firebombs during the five days of protests. Emiliano Gardno Galvez, 23, of Paramount and Wrackkie Quiogue, 27, of Long Beach, are charged with possession of an unregistered destructive device, which carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in federal prison, according to a federal complaint. 👉 Follow for the latest updates.

That breakup didn't last long

Sometimes after a breakup, you find yourself going back to the relationship. Billionaire Elon Musk, former top White House DOGE adviser, has gradually taken steps to restore his tattered relationship with President Donald Trump. Musk said he regrets his social media posts about Trump last week, saying they "went too far." Musk and Trump's fight – which took place on their respective social media sites, X and Truth Social – came after the world's richest man criticized Trump's sweeping tax and policy bill and called on lawmakers to kill it. 👉 How Trump came out on top in the feud.

A conviction and an acquittal

Film producer Harvey Weinstein was convicted Wednesday in a New York retrial that rehashed some of the defining accusations of his original #MeToo case while acquitting him on another charge. A jury found Weinstein guilty of a first-degree criminal sexual act stemming from his assault of a former production assistant in 2006 but not guilty of a charge related to his alleged assault of a 16-year-old aspiring actress in 2002. The jury has not yet reached a verdict on a third charge and will continue deliberations Thursday. Weinstein, 73, is already serving a 16-year prison sentence after being found guilty of rape in 2022. 👉 What happened during Weinstein's retrial.
