Protests in the streets and a fight in the courts | Democratic California Gov. Gavin Newsom said Monday that the state of California plans to sue the Trump administration after President Donald Trump's decision to federalize the National Guard and send its members onto Los Angeles streets amid increasingly hostile protests over Trump immigration policies over the weekend. California Attorney General Rob Bonta announced the lawsuit against the administration at a press conference on Monday, calling Trump's move "unnecessary, counterproductive and most importantly unlawful." On Monday evening, U.S. Northern Command said the Pentagon is sending 700 active-duty Marines to Los Angeles in response to protests over immigration sweeps by the Trump administration. 👉 See the latest updates from LA. | The 101 freeway is reopened after it was shut down by crowds protesting the Trump administration's federal immigration sweeps in downtown Los Angeles. It ends with … Baldoni's lawsuit dismissed | Director and actor Justin Baldoni's $400 million countersuit against his "It Ends with Us" co-star Blake Lively, her husband, Ryan Reynolds, and The New York Times has been dismissed by a judge. Judge Lewis Liman granted a motion for dismissal Monday from Lively's legal team because Baldoni's claims of civil extortion, defamation and false light did not hold up legally. However, the judge is allowing Baldoni's team another chance to address specific claims by filing a second amended complaint by June 23. Baldoni first sued Lively, Reynolds and the Times after the actress went public with claims Baldoni sexually harassed her and helped orchestrate a smear campaign against her. The lawsuit was filed in response to Lively's sexual harassment and retaliation lawsuit in late 2024. 👉 What to know about the Baldoni-Lively legal battle. | Justin Baldoni speaks at the Vital Voices 12th Annual Voices of Solidarity Awards in New York City on Dec. 9, 2024. Israeli forces seize Gaza aid boat carrying Greta Thunberg | An aid ship heading for the Gaza Strip and carrying a 12-person crew, including activist Greta Thunberg, was seized by Israeli forces, officials said. The British-flagged yacht Madleen, which is operated by the pro-Palestinian Freedom Flotilla Coalition, aimed to deliver a symbolic amount of aid to Gaza on Monday and raise international awareness of the humanitarian crisis there. The coalition said the boat was boarded the night before it reached the shore, and the Israeli Foreign Ministry later confirmed that the vessel was under Israeli control. 👉 Why Israeli forces seized the aid boat. | Protesters and counterprotesters collide near the Israeli port of Ashdod after Israeli forces intercepted a Gaza-bound aid boat.
