The first Monday in May will be 'Superfine' |
The Metropolitan Museum of Art's annual fashion extravaganza is back Monday, and this time, the event is paying homage to the debonair flair of Black menswear and its evolution over the centuries. |
Expect Black excellence: With a nod to menswear, the dress code for this year's event is "Tailored for You," while the theme is "Superfine: Tailoring Black Style." |
• | Night at the museum: The theme coincides with the Met's exhibit of the same name, on view May 10 to Oct. 26 and inspired by Monica L. Miller's 2009 book, "Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity." | • | Explaining Black dandyism: Dandyism is characterized by an intense focus on aesthetics. Black dandyism began emerging as far back as 1700s England, when slave owners who wanted to flaunt their wealth began dressing their slaves in expensive clothing. | • | All eyes will be on the Met steps: Click here for the official gala livestream on Vogue's YouTube channel. | | Sean "Diddy" Combs' federal sex-crimes trial is set to begin Monday in New York City as the Billboard chart-topping rapper remains behind bars. Trump says he's responsible for only 'good parts' of economy | President Donald Trump again refused to take responsibility for the state of the economy and blamed his predecessor, former President Joe Biden, after the U.S. gross domestic product shrank at a 0.3% annual rate in the first three months of the year. Amid stock market turbulence, Trump last week declared, "This is Biden's Stock Market, not Trump's," even though Wall Street's volatility has widely been caused by his tariff polices. But after stocks surged over the past week, Trump touted the recent turnaround. |
The streets where Kilmar Abrego Garcia lived |
Senda 3, a cul-de-sac at the heart of San Salvador's Los Nogales, dead-ends into bushes and trees. Houses are jammed together. This is the street where Kilmar Abrego Garcia spent his early years. And the street he fled to come to America. He's 29 now and back in El Salvador, this time in prison, a father of three caught in a standoff among among President Trump, the courts, some members of Congress and the Salvadoran government. USA TODAY spoke with almost a dozen of Abrego Garcia's close neighbors, friends and neighbors about their lives in Senda 3. |
