@RebeccaMorin_

Hello! Rebecca Morin here. I'm still thinking about the looks at last night's Met Gala!

Oh, Canada...

It's been a bit of a rocky relationship between the two neighbors. But as President Donald Trump hosts Canada's newly elected Prime Minister Mark Carney at the White House on May 6, the president maintains the two countries are "going to be friends." The meeting comes after Carney's Liberal Party sealed a victory in the country's April 28 – largely due to Carney's opposition to Trump's sweeping tariffs and the president's calls to annex Canada as the 51st state. But Carney, during the Oval Office meeting, made one thing clear: Canada is not for sale. But "never say never," Trump responded. What's on the agenda between the two leaders?

As Trump met with Carney, the president announced the United States would stop airstrikes on Houthi militants in Yemen effective immediately. He said Houthi rebels informed the United States they don't want to fight anymore and the administration will honor that request.
It's not just a busy day at the White House. Trump's spending proposals for tougher border security, tariffs on foreign imports and the U.S. economy are getting scrutinized in congressional hearings. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem , who said Trump would like to eliminate the Federal Emergency Management Agency, and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, who said the administration is looking to cut costs at the Internal Revenue Service, both testified before Congress.
A key moment during Bessent's hearing: contradicting Trump's claims that the United States is talking with China about tariffs. Bessent said the Trump administration has not engaged in trade negotiations with China. Trump, who has imposed tariffs totaling 145% on imports from China, has signaled multiple times in recent weeks that trade talks with China were underway.

Trump hosts pricy fundraiser

What does it cost to have dinner with President Donald Trump? Apparently, it's $1.5 million. Trump on May 5 co-hosted a MAGA Inc. Super PAC dinner at the Trump National Golf Club in Sterling, VA, with David Sacks, the White House AI and crypto czar. The objective of Trump's fundraiser, however, is unclear. Despite teasing the idea of running for a third presidential term, Trump followed up in a recent interview by saying that, to "the best of my knowledge, you're not allowed to do." The Constitution's 22nd Amendment bars him from seeking a third term. What to know about Trump's fundraiser.

A politician's surprise Met Gala debut

It was fashion's biggest night. And former Vice President Kamala Harris made her Met Gala debut. With the theme of "Superfine: Tailoring Black Style," Harris donned an asymmetrical classic black and white gown at the event. However, she didn't walk the blue carpet on May 5 – typically where celebrities show off their themed attire. Harris is making her way back into the public eye, where she recently delivered a speech condemning Trump's first 100 days of his second term. See what Harris wore.
