Pop singer Cassie gave a tearful testimony during the Diddy trial. President Donald Trump is ending sanctions against Syria. And flooding is threatening the Washington, D.C., area. |
👋 Hello! Rebecca Morin here. I'm back to bring you Tuesday's news! Special thank you to John Riley for holding it down for me yesterday! |
A tearful testimony at Diddy trial | Throughout her emotional testimony, she dabbed a tissue to her eyes. Casandra Ventura Fine, Sean "Diddy" Combs' ex-girlfriend, on Tuesday alleged he repeatedly beat her and pressured her into demeaning sexual performances during their relationship at the rapper's federal sex crimes trial. Ventura Fine, visibly pregnant with her third child, is a pop singer known as Cassie and is the prosecution's star witness in the rapper's case. |
Cassie breaks down: Ventura Fine cried when discussing her participation in "freak-offs," or drug-fueled sex sessions. The singer, who said she was 22 years old when Combs introduced her to "freak-offs," said she continued to participate in them because she didn't want to disappoint Diddy. When she tried to broach the subject of no longer doing them, Combs was "dismissive," Ventura Fine said. 👉 What Cassie said during her testimony. | Sean "Diddy" Combs watches as his former girlfriend Casandra "Cassie" Ventura Fine is sworn in as a prosecution witness before U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian at Combs' sex trafficking trial in New York City, May 13, 2025, in this courtroom sketch. Trump's Middle East swing | An arms deal, a business leaders luncheon, and new Saudi investments. President Donald Trump on Tuesday started his swing through the Middle East in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. He met with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and had a luncheon with Saudi officials and leading CEOs, like Tesla CEO and Trump ally Elon Musk and Sam Altman, the chief executive of OpenAI. |
Ending sanctions on Syria: Trump on Tuesday announced he will order the end of sanctions against Syria in hopes of normalizing relations with the new Syrian government after the fall of the country's dictator, Bashar Assad. Inflation eased to a four-year low | Your wallet may feel a tiny bit of ease. Amid uncertainty over Trump's sweeping tariffs, inflation eased to a four-year low in April, but is still above the Federal Reserve's 2% goal. Overall consumer prices increased 2.3% from a year earlier, down from a 2.4% rise the previous month, according to the Labor Department's consumer price index, a measure of average changes in goods and services costs. The report provides a snapshot of consumer prices just as Trump's reciprocal tariffs were kicking in. Grocery prices, including eggs, used cars and airfares fell sharply. However, medical services and auto insurance and repairs continued to drift higher. 💵 Economists are split on whether tariffs affect inflation. | It's raining, it's pouring, and beware of flooding. A sprawling atmospheric river that is sweeping through the Mid-Atlantic states on Tuesday is driving multiple inches of rain and threatening coastal flooding. The same storm stalled over the Southeast over the weekend, bringing inches of rain to cities in states like Georgia, South Carolina and Florida. Portions of far western Maryland, which have received nearly 5 inches of rain, were issued a "flash flood emergency." Flood watches have been issued across the Washington, D.C., area, including suburban Virginia, western Maryland and parts of West Virginia. The National Weather Service warned residents in southwestern Allegany County, Maryland, to "SEEK HIGHER GROUND NOW!" 🌧️ See the forecast amid the storm. | A heavy rain shower falls on Colonial Boulevard in Fort Myers on Monday, May 12, 2025.
