President Donald Trump retreated on tariffs after days of turmoil. RFK Jr. is changing his tune on the measles vaccine. And why is that toddler on the golf course? |
👋 Hey there! Rebecca Morin here. It's Wednesday! Don't miss out on today's news. |
A tariff pause – except for China | After days of a trade war rattling Wall Street and increasing fears of a possible recession, President Trump announced he was issuing a 90-day pause on his reciprocal tariffs he announced last week to all countries except China. In fact, Trump raised the levy to goods from China to 125% – escalating the back and forth between Beijing and Washington. A universal 10% tariff on all imports remain in place. 👉 Follow today's updates. |
Wall Street rebounds in a big way: U.S. markets immediately responded with enthusiasm. Closely watched stock indexes like the S&P 500 and Dow Jones saw huge gains Wednesday after losing trillions in value since Trump unveiled his tariff plan April 2. 👉 See where the markets stand. | Stock market numbers are displayed at the New York Stock Exchange during afternoon trading on Wednesday in New York City. RFK Jr. urges people to get measles vaccine |
Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a vaccine skeptic, is now encouraging people to get vaccinated against measles after two children died in an ongoing outbreak in Texas. The fatalities are the first in the United States in a decade from the highly contagious disease. |
What's RFK Jr.'s vaccine stance? Kennedy had said the vaccine is "the most effective way" to prevent the spread of measles, but he hadn't categorically encouraged people to get the vaccine. He wrote in an opinion piece last month that parents should consider measles vaccinations for their children. 👉 What to know about Kennedy's comments on measles. |
A family affair at the Masters | It's one of the biggest weeks in golf: the 2025 Masters. And to get the tournament unofficially started, the annual Par 3 Contest tradition brought some lighthearted family fun Wednesday. Before competing for the prestigious green jacket, the world's best golfers can have their family – children to grandparents – participate or serve as caddies in the contest. The first round of the tournament, which is held at Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia, begins Thursday and continues into the weekend. ⛳️ Highlights from today's Par 3 Contest. | Adam Schenk's son, AJ, plays with Stephan Jaeger's child, Harrison, in the bunker during the Par 3 Contest at Augusta National Golf Club. A boycott target that's not Target | Some shoppers are actually pausing shopping − this time at Walmart. A boycott against the retail giant and its affiliated stores like Sam's Club is on this week to protest corporate greed and moves to roll back diversity, equity and inclusion efforts. The new actions follow several other boycotts against Target, Amazon and Nestle, and even a one-day "economic blackout" on Feb. 28. 💸 Why shoppers are boycotting Walmart. | A view of a Walmart store in Vienna, Virginia on November 26, 2024.
