President Donald Trump has announced 10% tariffs on imports from all nations. Biblical rain is coming for large portions of America. And corruption charges against New York City's mayor were dropped.

👋 How's it going? Nicole Fallert filing in for Rebecca Morin here. Let's dive into Wednesday's news.

But first: Mark you calendar for these four must-see celestial events in April, including a pink moon and meteor shower. 🌠

Trump ratchets up pressure in trade war

President Donald Trump announced sweeping 10% tariffs on all imports Wednesday, escalating tensions with major U.S. trade partners. He also imposed additional reciprocal tariffs on about 60 countries, fulfilling a pledge to retaliate against nations he said have treated the U.S. unfairly. Economists have warned the measures will lead to higher prices on affected goods, and are likely to trigger more retaliatory tariffs from other nations.

Wall Street, Washington react: The stock market, which had been volatile in anticipation of the announcement, ended the day with mixed reactions. Stocks gained during the day Wednesday as investors awaited more clarity from the White House, but turned sharply lower in after-hours trading after Trump's announcement. Meanwhile, the Senate was preparing to vote on a measure to limit Trump's tariff authority in a potential rebuke to the president. Catch up with the latest.

Charges dropped against NYC mayor

A federal judge on Wednesday dismissed the corruption case against New York City Mayor Eric Adams, although without the strings attached that had been sought by the Justice Department. Adams had faced charges of accepting free travel and political donations from Turkish officials to take actions that benefited their country.

How President Donald Trump factors into this: U.S. District Judge Dale Ho dismissed the case with prejudice, meaning the charges cannot be refiled at a later date. Ho said the Justice Department's request for a dismissal without prejudice could have left the Democratic mayor beholden to Trump's administration, which considers Adams an ally in its immigration crackdown. More on Adams' case.
