President Donald Trump offers a temporary tariff reprieve to U.S. automakers. Gene Hackman's nephew speaks out about his uncle's death. And an uptick in anger about anything Tesla.

👋 Hello! Rebecca Morin here. It's raining. It's pouring. And Wednesday's news is far from boring.

Trump's tariff defense

President Trump gave a forceful defense of his tariffs during his address to Congress on Tuesday evening, even as some economists fear the trade dispute will raise prices. But less than 24 hours later, he issued a temporary exemption to automobiles from newly imposed tariffs on imports from Canada and Mexico for the next month.

'A little disturbance': During his speech, Trump said he spoke with the leaders of General Motors, Ford and Stellantis, who requested the carve-out. Trump conceded that the tariffs will cause "a little disturbance" but said it would be worth it. 👉  The latest on Trump's tariffs

Cause of Gene Hackman's death remains a mystery

It has been one week since Gene Hackman and his wife, Betsy Arakawa, were found dead in their home in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and there's still a lot of mystery surrounding their deaths. The Santa Fe County Sheriff's Office has ruled out a gas leak after conducting an "extensive investigation." The actor's nephew, Tim Hackman, said the family doesn't want to speculate on theories surrounding their death and is waiting for the toxicology report. 👉 What to know about Hackman's death

Trump ordered to pay foreign aid organizations

Trump's administration must pay back foreign aid organizations for work that was already performed for the government, the Supreme Court ruled Wednesday. The court rejected the Trump administration's request to block an order that set a deadline to repay the organizations. Since taking office in January, Trump has moved to freeze foreign assistance and heaped ridicule on the U.S. Agency for International Development, the world's largest foreign aid agency. 👉 What the Supreme Court's ruling means

Watch out, Teslas

Are you part of the "Anti Elon Tesla Club"? Some Tesla owners are trying to distance themselves from the electric vehicle maker's CEO, Elon Musk, because of his involvement with the Trump administration. Musk, the world's richest person, has led efforts to slash the federal workforce, laying off thousands. As a result, Tesla dealerships, vehicles and charging stations have seen protests and even vandalism − and shoppers on Etsy can now find bumper stickers with messages like "This Tesla does not endorse Elon Musk" and "I bought this before Elon went crazy."

What incidents have there been? Protesters across the country last week held a "Tesla Takedown" at dealerships to demonstrate against Musk's involvement in Trump's administration. Nine people were arrested in a protest outside a Tesla dealership in New York City, and a Tesla dealership in Maryland was vandalized with the words "No Musk." 🚘 Why Teslas are being targeted
