Federal judge temporarily blocks Trump's pause on grants and loans

A federal judge blocked President Donald Trump's policy that directed agencies to pause federal grants and loans so they can be reviewed to see if they fit the president's priorities. U.S. District Judge Loren AliKhan ordered the Trump administration not to halt grant funding until at least Feb. 3, when another hearing will be held on the dispute. Read more.

The pause wasn't going to include Social Security and Medicare benefits or food stamps, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said Tuesday.
The U.S. Department of Education also said direct student loans and Pell Grants wouldn't be stopped amid the broad federal funding temporary freeze.

The judge's ruling comes after a coalition of advocacy groups asked for a temporary restraining order to prevent the pause, saying it would cause "catastrophic" harm if it was enacted. Six Democratic-led states were also fighting against the memo.

Caroline Kennedy calls cousin, RFK Jr., a 'predator' before HHS hearing

Caroline Kennedy, the only living child of former President John F. Kennedy, wrote in a letter to senators warning that her cousin, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., is a "predator" and "addicted to attention and power." The letter comes one day before RFK Jr. faces a confirmation hearing to become Donald Trump's Health and Human Services secretary. Some of the president's most controversial nominees are still set to face questions from senators this week, including RFK Jr., Tulsi Gabbard and Kash Patel. But other Trump nominees have gotten some bipartisan support, including Sean Duffy, a former MTV reality show cast member and a Fox News host, who was confirmed as secretary of Transportation on Tuesday.

Trump order recognizes only two sexes. Advocates call it 'cruel,' 'lawless.'

More than 175 organizations that advocate for women's and transgender rights blasted Donald Trump in a letter released Tuesday for his requirement that federal agencies only recognize two sexes, male and female. The groups, which include the National Women's Law Center, Transgender Law Center, and dozens more, argue that the president's order could put people in harm's way of spreading disinformation and lead to harassment.
