Donald Trump was sworn in as president. Joe Biden issued some final pardons. And a champion will be crowned in the College Football Playoffs. |
👋 Hello lovely readers! Rebecca Morin here. Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day! It's a jam-packed Monday. Let's get to the news. |
Welcome to another Trump White House |
President Donald Trump was sworn in Monday as the 47th president of the United States, and is already enacting sweeping executive action on campaign priorities like immigration and moving to undo many of his predecessor's major policies. |
Indoor swearing in: The frigid Washington, D.C., weather moved Trump's swearing in ceremony inside the Capitol's Rotunda on Monday, limiting the amount of attendees. Top political leaders, such as former presidents and vice presidents, Trump's potential cabinet and key allies like tech giants Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg were in attendance. 👉Follow today's coverage. |
Musk watch: Elon Musk, the world's richest man, has become a familiar sight in Trump's inner circle. And that didn't change on Monday. The tech giant had a VIP seat to the president's inauguration and was a speaker at weekend rally in D.C. 👉 More on Musk's presence |
Sweeping orders: Trump is taking aim at several key issues on Day 1. He will declare at least two national emergencies targeting the border and the energy sector. Under the national emergencies, Trump intends to use the U.S. military to crack down on illegal immigration as well as end the so-called "electric vehicle mandate." Other planned orders are set to withdraw the U.S. from the Paris climate agreement, reverse protections for transgender people and rename geographic features like the Gulf of Mexico. 👉A breakdown here. | Donald Trump is sworn in as the 47th president of the United States by Chief Justice John Roberts as Melania Trump holds the Bible in the Rotunda of the U.S. Capitol in Washington on Monday. Among them was Biden's brother, James Biden, his sister Valerie Biden Owens, Anthony Fauci and former GOP Rep. Liz Cheney. 👉 Who else did Biden pardon? | Former President Joe Biden and former first lady Dr. Jill Biden board the helicopter after the swearing-in of President Donald Trump on Monday.
