'Heroic' efforts to stop LA wildfires |
Multiple deadly wildfires fueled by extreme winds were still plaguing the Los Angeles area Thursday as thousands flee and firefighters deal with a water shortage. |
Evacuation notice: Almost 180,000 people have been ordered to evacuate, with another 200,000 facing evacuation warnings. Authorities have confirmed at least five fatalities so far, although Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna said it is early to provide a death toll. |
Struggling to contain: Two of the largest blazes, the Palisades Fire and Eaton Fire, have 0% containment. The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power's three water tanks serving Pacific Palisades, which hold about a million gallons each, ran out Wednesday morning. |
