Trump to prosecutor: If I win, you're fired

Trump vs. Jack Smith

If he wins the election, what would Donald Trump do about the man who is prosecuting cases against him? "I would fire him within two seconds," Trump told conservative radio show host Hugh Hewitt on Thursday.

Why it matters: Special Counsel Jack Smith is the top prosecutor in two ongoing federal cases against Trump, one involving efforts to overturn the 2020 election and the other dealing with taking classified documents when he left office. If reelected, Trump could potentially order the Department of Justice to remove Smith and end the cases against him.

Criticism came quickly: Trump's comments drew swift condemnation from some legal experts for violating the norm that presidents allow the DOJ to operate independently. Trump has previously said he would use the DOJ to prosecute his political opponents for unspecified crimes. 👉 More from the interview.

Workers reject Boeing deal

Boeing factory workers voted to reject a contract offer and continue a more than five-week strike on Wednesday, in a blow to new CEO Kelly Ortberg's plan to shore up the finances of the struggling planemaker. The vote was 64% against the deal.

What's going on? Some 33,000 machinists went on strike at Boeing's West Coast factories on Sept. 13, halting production of the company's bestselling airplanes. The tough negotiations reflect years of resentment from workers who felt cheated by the company in talks a decade ago when Boeing used the threat of moving some production out of the region to push through a deal that ended traditional pensions. 🛬 Here's what you need to know.

A haunted hobby

It's basically an American pastime: Getting super scared at Halloween. One of the best ways to send chills down your spine? A ghost tour – and these spooky strolls aren't just a good way to creep yourself out and scare your friends at Halloween, they also teach real local history and boost tourism at sometimes overlooked historic sites.
