Trump cleans up. Harris closes.

The Puerto Rican community in Allentown, Pennsylvania, was still roiled Tuesday as Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump arrived in their town following remarks by comedian Tony Hinchcliffe at the former president's Madison Square Garden event Sunday calling Puerto Rico a "floating island of garbage."

Trump attests it's all love: The former president stood with Prominent Hispanic Republicans on Tuesday calling the MSG rally a "lovefest" and declaring that "nobody loves our Latino community and our Puerto Rican community more than I do."

"Como Puertorriqueño te diré que eso no tiene manera de disculparse!!!": Allentown's Puerto Rican community reacted to the comments, with one person saying "As a Puerto Rican there's no apology that will do."
Meanwhile, miles away in Washington, Vice President Kamala Harris delivered her final pitch Tuesday night to a crowd of 75,000 on the National Mall, where she portrayed Trump as a vengeful "petty tyrant" who is only out for himself and "unchecked power."
Looking ahead post-Election Day: A leader of one Trump-aligned group behind lawsuits challenging state voter rolls told USA TODAY it is already − before Election Day − planning to sue over the 2024 election results.

🗓️ Election Day is next Tuesday. We'll be with you every step of the way:

Russia brought in North Korean troops. It's chaos.

Ukraine's spies say they intercepted phone calls showing chaos as Russia works to integrate North Korean troops into its military operations. Some of the calls were intercepted from troops involved in defending Kursk, a region of Russia on Ukraine's northern border where Ukrainian troops seized territory in August, according to Ukraine's Defense Intelligence Agency. In one call, a soldier complained that there were not enough translators. "We all work like translators now," the solider said. Read more

The Southeast could see more hurricanes

The calm before the storm? A pacific meteorological period has settled over the southeastern U.S. after months of brutal storms. But a moment of reprieve from severe weather does not mean the 2024 hurricane season plans to go out quietly, forecasters warn. Experts say the hurricane season could last into December, exacerbating billion-dollar recovery and rescue projects already in motion following Hurricanes Helene and Milton. Read more

Climate change creates health crisis. Health care creates climate change.

Climate change is killing Americans in surprising ways. Waste created by health care itself is a major part of how climate change is impacting health, a report in one of the world's most prestigious medical journals says. The annual Lancet Countdown on Health and Climate Change report highlights the heath care sector's connection to climate change, with 8.5% of U.S. greenhouse gas emissions coming from the industry. Researchers note there is no national program that requires it to measure, manage or disclose its data. Read more

The Yankees stay alive

The New York Yankees, facing elimination for the first time this postseason, resuscitated their season in Game 4 of the World Series not from a long ball from Aaron Judge or Giancarlo Stanton or Juan Soto, but Anthony Volpe, their shortstop. Volpe cracked a go-ahead grand slam in the bottom of the third inning as the Yankees overcame the menace that is Freddie Freeman and defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers, 11-4, before an invigorated crowd of 49,354 at Yankee Stadium.  The Dodgers lead the Series, 3-1, heading into Game 5 Wednesday night.
