Hi there OnPolitics readers! A federal judge threatened to remove former President Donald Trump from a New York courtroom today. Yes, really.

Why is Trump in court? A federal jury in May found Trump liable for sexually abusing columnist E. Jean Carroll in the 1990s and defaming her. The current trial in lower Manhattan will determine what, if any, damages Trump might owe Carroll after he publicly denied her allegations in 2019 when he was president, USA TODAY's Aysha Bagchi reports.

What happened? Judge Lewis Kaplan on Wednesday threatened to bounce Trump after a lawyer for Carroll said he ignored a warning not to make comments within earshot of the jury.

"Mr. Trump, I hope I don't have to consider excluding you from the trial," Kaplan told the 2024 Republican presidential frontrunner after Carroll's lawyers complained that the jury could hear him disparaging the former advice columnist's testimony. "I understand you're probably eager for me to do that."

"I would love it," Trump shot back.

The former president was already ordered to pay a combined $5 million for the abuse and for a defamatory statement he made in 2022, when he called Carroll a "con job."
