Police: Suspect dead after shooting on UNLV campus

A shooting suspect is dead after spraying bullets into crowds at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas campus on Wednesday. The shooting injured at least three and caused panic among students. The university confirmed shortly after noon local time that there was an active shooter at Frank and Estella Beam Hall. The college said 20 minutes later that there was an additional report of shots fired at the Student Union. Shortly after 12:30 p.m. local time, Las Vegas police said the suspect had been found dead. Victims have been transported to local hospitals, police said, and a reunification center has been set up for people looking for loved ones. 👉 Follow our live coverage for the latest.

4 soldiers charged with Ukraine war crimes by US

Four Russia-affiliated soldiers were indicted on charges of war crimes in the Ukraine conflict for allegedly locking up and torturing a U.S. citizen after the invasion in February 2022, the Justice Department announced Wednesday. The charges are the first ever brought under a U.S. war crimes law. The defendants are charged with three war crimes – unlawful confinement, torture and inhumane treatment – and one count of conspiracy to commit war crimes. None of the men are in custody, but FBI Director Christopher Wray said the charges reflected international cooperation and demonstrated the government would hold war criminals accountable. 👉 What we know about the charges.

Taylor Swift is Time's Person of the Year

She's in her Time Person of the Year era. Taylor Swift was named 2023's Time Person of the Year, giving the billionaire, business mogul, singer, songwriter, director, actress and producer another heavyweight accolade for her mantelpiece. "In a divided world, where too many institutions are failing, Taylor Swift found a way to transcend borders and be a source of light," Time Editor-in-Chief Sam Jacobs wrote.
