Americans among first civilians allowed to leave Gaza

Egypt allowed hundreds of foreign passport holders, including Americans, and dozens of seriously injured Palestinians trapped in the Gaza Strip to flee through the Rafah crossing Wednesday as the humanitarian crisis intensified and the war's combined death toll climbed above 10,000. A State Department spokesman said about 400 U.S. citizens are seeking to leave the territory, along with their family members. Egypt had refused to accept refugees amid concerns Israel might not allow them to return but made an accommodation for those in dire need of medical help. More than 2 million Palestinians remain trapped while Israel has bombed Gaza relentlessly since the attack of Hamas militants on Israeli border communities on Oct. 7. 👉 Follow our live coverage.

No hike!

This time. Amid a remarkably strong economy and job market, the Federal Reserve held its key interest rate steady Wednesday but left the door open to another hike, possibly as soon as December. The decision leaves the Fed's benchmark short-term rate at a 22-year high of 5.25% to 5.5% after an aggressive campaign of rate increases aimed at taming inflation. It's the first time the Fed has left its federal funds rate unchanged at consecutive meetings in nearly two years. 📈 Will the Fed raise interest rates again? What we know.

Some credit card rates are at 33%. Can they even do that!?

Maine law might have taken shooter's guns – but it wasn't used

In the mass shooting suspect's hometown in Maine, law enforcement officers heard repeated warnings about him from relatives and fellow soldiers. But they never took the step experts say could have separated the man from his guns before he committed the deadliest mass shooting in state history. Detaining him under Maine's "yellow flag" law would have allowed police to order a psychiatric assessment and could have opened the door to asking a judge to ban the man from possessing firearms. 🔎 We break it down.

👉 A possible motive: Records released this week show repeated warnings about the suspect's mental condition and an account of him threatening to commit a shooting. Here's what we know.

Kim Kardashian's nipple bra: A game changer?

Meshing business with climate change awareness, Kim Kardashian announced the release of her new Skims push-up bra featuring built-in nipples that "unlike the icebergs… aren't going anywhere." Kardashian has, perhaps unintentionally, created a product that could be a game changer for one growing community in particular: people who have had breast cancer and lost their nipples in an attempt to save their lives. The product was initially met with ridicule online. The breast cancer community, however, praised it and emphasized it could also serve as a gender-affirming product for trans and nonbinary people. 👙 Keep reading.
