Hi there, OnPolitics readers.

Former President Donald Trump pleaded not guilty in federal court today to 37 counts related to his alleged mishandling of classified documents seized from his Florida resort, Mar-a-Lago.

🚨 First things first: Read our live blog coverage of Trump's indictment for all the most important details about today's historic arraignment.

How it happened: After arriving at the Wilkie D. Ferguson Jr. United States Courthouse in Miami shortly before 2 p.m., Trump was arrested and arraigned. He was digitally fingerprinted during the pretrial services, but he did not have a mug shot taken.

Trump then pleaded not guilty to all charges during the hearing, the first time in American history that a former president was charged with federal crimes.

The federal charges: The indictment charged Trump on 37 counts, including illegally retaining the nation's classified defense secrets and obstructing justice.

A long legal process will now unfold that might eventually with Trump on trial for federal crimes. Special Counsel Jack Smith previously said that he is going to seek a "speedy trial" for the former president.
