Messages of support for teacher Abby Zwerner, who was shot by a 6-year-old student, grace the front door of Richneck Elementary School Newport News, Va., on Jan. 9, 2023.

Our country won't protect kids from guns. Teach gun safety in schools.

In my ideal world, guns wouldn't exist, and the lives of countless children would have been saved. But that world is fictional.
