It's Thursday, Talking Tech readers. With the weekend in sight, Brett Molina is back with your recap of tech news. |
Let's start with streaming, where another key pillar of the Netflix experience is about to crumble. The streaming titan said it's going to block users from freely sharing their accounts with people outside their household. |
The upcoming change follows another important milestone for Netflix and its users: Introducing a new tier that includes commercials, which co-founder Reed Hastings had previously pushed against. |
Of course, we all know why Netflix is doing this: Not enough of us are spending money to subscribe! The company experimented with "sub-accounts" which would allow users to technically share their accounts, but for an extra fee. |
On the bright side, Netflix (and other streaming services) are easy to cancel. |
What else happened in tech? |
Meta to lift Trump's Facebook, Instagram bans. The decision will happen in the coming weeks. |
Justice Department is suing Google. The agency alleges Google's dominance in digital advertising is hurting competition. |
Update your iPhones! The latest version of iOS is available now. |
Thursday tech tip |
Just when you thought you knew everything about your smartphone, a new feature might pop up that surprises or delights you. Here are a few of the cool, hidden tools you can pull up on your phone. |
One more thing |
Spare me a moment for a cookie rant. Oreo is rolling out a new flavor of cookie: Oreo flavored. Nope, not a joke. You will soon get to purchase Oreo-stuffed Oreos. Aren't those just called Oreos? What are we doing here? We have double-stuffed already. In fact, we have what feels like a billion flavors of Oreo. I think we're good. |
Thanks for reading! See you next week. |
