Talking Tech: RIP sharing your Netflix account for free

First, Netflix preps an plan with ads. Now, they're going to start charging users for sharing their accounts with others outside their household. ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌

Talking Tech

Thursday, October 20

It's Thursday. You know what that means: another round of tech headlines. It's Brett Molina overly excited about the return of the NBA and ready to get you up to speed on all things tech.

Let's pour one out for Netflix as we know it. First, they're going to feature ads for the first time ever as part of a new basic plan available next month for $6.99.

Then comes the real gut punch: Netflix will start charging you for sharing your accounts. That's right, children of parents with a Netflix subscription, or friends who maybe split the cost to watch "Stranger Things" or other Netflix programming: You're going to have to pay up.

How does it work? Subscribers will soon have the option to create a sub-account for someone who's not in their household. They get their own login and account preferences. The owner of the primary account will then pay extra to include that sub-account.

It makes sense why they are doing this. Netflix leaves a lot of money behind not requiring everyone to have a unique account. Plus, the competition in streaming has grown fierce with countless other options.

But just like when Netflix used to deliver our movies or TV shows by mailremember DVDs? – we'll reminisce about sharing our Netflix passwords to watch "Bridgerton."

What else happened in tech?

New iPads from Apple. And there's a new Apple TV coming, too.

It's Cybersecurity Awareness Month. These courses will help protect yourself.

Unsending texts on iPhone. Here's what really happens when you delete a message.
