Here's our top premium columns from this week.

It's Saturday, which means it's time for the round-up of this week's top premium columns.

These are columns our subscribers loved or that people subscribed specifically to read. Subscribe, read, share and let us know your thoughts.

1. As Mother's Day comes, reach out to single moms with small kids

By Connie Schultz

Every woman who loves a child wants to meet that child's every need. To keep them safe, that's our calling. To be enough for them, that's our yearning. We hope for a generous appraisal, and not just from our beloved children. No role endures more public scrutiny than motherhood.

When I became a single mother, I developed a radar for the lowered expectations of others. Most of you single mothers know what I mean. These critics have their doubts about us, and they never hide them as well as they think they do. Even their compliments can sting.

2. Justice Alito's draft opinion on abortion is a courageous gift to American children

By Ashley McGuire

Are we really shocked that the draft opinion in the most significant Supreme Court case in 50 years was leaked? We certainly should be, as the leak is, to quote legal scholar Carter Snead, a "shocking act of betrayal and a breathtaking breach of ethics."

To those who don't follow Supreme Court politicking closely, the leak matters because it is an act of corruption of the highest order, one that appears to have been done to exert political pressure on the justices to change their opinions.

The justices represent the one branch of government that was designed to be independent of political pressure. The leaker strikes at the heart of the American system of government and its design.

3. Remember what happened at Kent State on May 4? You should.

By Connie Schultz

Every May 4, the ghosts return.

We see them in the images of students huddling around the campus Victory Bell on that sunny day in 1970. They are Ohio National Guard troops aiming their rifles at students minutes later. They are the students trying to save a wounded student, and the girl crying over the body of student Jeffrey Miller.

This is the legacy of anyone affiliated with Kent State. As it should be. To prevent future tragedies, remembrance is crucial.

X Holdings I, II, and III In his bid to acquire Twitter, Musk registered three companies under the name "X Holdings." He has been a vocal critic of the social media giant, questioning its commitment to free speech. With a 9.2% stake in the company, Musk wants to take Twitter private. According to SEC filings, X Holdings I would become the parent company if Musk completes the deal, while X Holdings II would merge with Twitter. X Holdings III would be used to help fund the transaction. Musk says he has lined up $46.5 billion in commitments to finance the deal. Investors now wonder if he will combine his other companies under X Holdings. As of Monday, Twitter has accepted Musk's buyout bid and the deal is expected to close this year - though according to Investopedia, "it is dependent upon Twitter shareholder approval, regulatory approval, and other closing conditions." 4. WWE can teach Democrats to fight Trump and Republicans

By Kurt Bardella

In many ways, the world of professional wrestling is the perfect mirror for what the world of politics has become. After all, the ultimate cult-of-personality character, Donald J. Trump, once partook in a WrestleMania angle dubbed the "Battle of the Billionaires."

And that's the thing about the Republican Party that Democrats have a hard time understanding, to the GOP, it's all theater. Just as WWE coined the phrase "sports entertainment" to market their product, Republicans see themselves in a similar light and act accordingly. Josh Hawley, Tom Cotton, Marjorie Taylor Greene, Paul Gosar, Matt Gaetz, Ted Cruz, Lauren Boebert, Sarah Palin etc. have effectively formed a "heel" faction.

5. From Tucker Carlson to Trump, damage to America is mounting

By Tim Swarens

As a conservative, I am pained to say that the worst abusers of our civic health tend to line up on the right. We have no shortage of mean-spirited, nasty progressives eager to start the next Twitter war. But on the right we have anointed leaders like Donald Trump and Tucker Carlson, whose disdain for norms of civility and propriety appears boundless, and we have tolerated even lower lights such as Reps. Matt Gaetz of Florida and Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia, so tasteless and obnoxious that they further taint even the seediest venues of public discourse.

Somehow, those of us on the political and social right have gone from Ronald Reagan's vision of a "shining city upon a hill" and George H.W. Bush's "thousand points of light" to Trump's "grab 'em by the (blank)."
