The Daily Money: It's free! (Sort of)

In today's Daily Money newsletter, we have updates on the impact of the Suez Canal cargo ship, stimulus checks and Dick's Sporting Goods. ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌

The Daily Money

Monday, March 29

Good morning, Daily Money friends, it's Nathan Bomey welcoming you to Monday.

It's free! Well, sort of. That gigantic cargo ship that got stuck in the Suez Canal has been partially freed.

Yay. But as I saw someone say on Twitter, the fact that a big boat got stuck and it took us a solid week to free it makes me think that maybe our society isn't advanced as I had thought.

💰 Hey, Daily Money is our regular USA TODAY roundup of all things personal finance, business and tech. If you're not yet subscribed, it's free, so sign up here!

Tug boats and diggers work to free the Panama-flagged, Japanese-owned Ever Given, which is lodged across the Suez Canal, Sunday, March 28, 2021. Two additional tugboats are speeding to canal to aid efforts to free the skyscraper-sized container ship wedged for days across the crucial waterway. That's even as major shippers increasingly divert their boats out of fear the vessel may take even longer to free.

💡 INSIGHT OF THE DAY: About 10% of global trade passes through the Suez Canal, or nearly $10 billion of goods daily. If they hit a snag in their efforts to get the ship out of the way, we could soon see more shortages of basic home goods.

📰 Here are our top stories:

1. Would you use a rock-climbing wall at Dick's Sporting Goods? Now's your chance.

2. Still waiting for your stimulus check? You might be included in the latest round.

3. Are you spending or saving your stimulus check? What's best for you might not be best for the economy.

4. Was the Krispy Kreme donut-for-vaccination offer acceptable? You decide.

Have a great start to your week!

The skyscraper-sized cargo ship wedged across Egypt's Suez Canal further imperiled global shipping Thursday as at least 150 other vessels needing to pass through the crucial waterway idled waiting for the obstruction to clear, authorities said.
