Sixteen prisoners decapitated and a shooting in California: Monday's news

Another senseless shooting. Another hot car tragedy. Another tirade from the president aimed at a minority lawmaker. It may feel familiar, but it's Monday's news.

But first, Airbnb "killed our city": Arizona residents feel helpless as vacationers transform the town of Sedona.

6-year-old boy among three dead in California rampage

A shooting at the Garlic Festival in California on Sunday left three people dead, including 6-year-old Stephen Romero . Alberto Romero told The Mercury News that his wife called him from the festival, saying, "They shot my son." At least 12 were wounded, their conditions ranging from fair to critical. Gilroy police confirmed the identity of the shooter, saying he cut through a fence to avoid metal detectors and security at the festival. He appeared to shoot randomly for less than a minute before three officers killed him in a shootout. President Donald Trump asked for prayers for the victims Monday. "A wicked murderer opened fire," he said.

Here's what we know about the attack:

The three killed include Stephen Romero, a 13-year-old girl and a man in his 20s.
The shooter's "AK-47-type assault rifle" was legally purchased in Nevada this month.
Police identified the attacker as a 19-year-old Gilroy native but have not named a motive.

Trump's tirade against Baltimore spills onto Al Sharpton

Baltimore Mayor Bernard "Jack" Young lit into Trump on Monday, describing his tweets against Rep. Elijah Cummings as "racist" and arguing the government should do more to help the city. "The president should focus more on America as a place where we can live as one nation, not divided by race," Young told USA TODAY. The Baltimore battle began over the weekend when Trump blasted Cummings in a tweet storm, calling the city a "disgusting, rat and rodent infested mess." The tweet has drawn heavy backlash from the majority-black city.

The Twitter war carried into Monday as the president engaged in a fierce battle with civil rights activist Al Sharpton, who headed to Baltimore to denounce the president's attacks. Trump labeled Sharpton as a "troublemaker" in a tweet. "I do make trouble," Sharpton said, "for bigots."

After Trump's call for Rep. Ilhan Omar to "go back" to Somalia, Sen. Rand Paul offered her a trip there "to appreciate America more."

At least 52 prisoners were killed by other inmates during a riot at a prison in Brazil on Monday, authorities say. He forgot his kids were in the car

The wife of an Iraq War veteran defended her grieving husband after the couple's twin children died in a hot car  in New York City. Juan Rodriguez, 39, told investigators he dropped one of his children at day care, then drove to work, forgetting the 1-year-olds were in the parked car. Marissa Rodriguez said she was hurting but still loved her husband. "He is a good person and a great father, and I know he would've never done anything to hurt our children intentionally," she said. Rodriguez, free on $100,000 bail, faces manslaughter and other charges. Temperatures reached the mid-80s Friday, but cars parked in the sun can get much hotter. In the past 20 years, more than 800 children have died while trapped in oven-like cars
