It's not Mexican Independence Day, and it's not a US import, like the Corona you might sip later. Today is your once-a-year chance to celebrate our southern neighbor's 1862 victory over France. And there's plenty of Mexican culture to explore in parts of the US that once belonged to Mexico, too.

Catholic churches will be quiet for a second-straight week following the Easter massacre as foreign intelligence reportedly warns of more threats. Schools in the island nation are due to reopen Monday, when nine suspects in the attacks are due in court.

Michael Cohen reports to prison
President Donald Trump's one-time fixer is expected Monday at one of "America's cushiest prisons," in upstate New York, to begin serving three years for lying to Congress and other crimes.

R. Kelly asks to leave the US
The singer facing 10 counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse is due back Tuesday in a Chicago courtroom. His request to travel abroad to work is still up in the air, a matter that he claims affects his child support case. Kelly has pleaded not guilty.

China-US trade talks could wrap
Huawei CFO Meng Wanzhou is due Wednesday before a Canadian judge for the start of what's expected to be a tense extradition process related to US fraud charges. At the same time, a top Chinese official is expected in Washington for what could be the last round of talks in a damaging trade war.

Jussie Smollett's case file may be unsealed
A judge on Thursday is set to weigh whether to unseal records related to dropped charges against the actor, who'd been accused of staging a hate crime in Chicago. Then Friday, the parties are due to argue over the appointment of a special prosecutor to review how the state's attorney's office handled the case.

Rod Rosenstein leaves Justice
The deputy attorney general who appointed special counsel Robert Mueller and often found himself the target of the President is resigning, effective Saturday.
