Thai soccer team found alive after 10 days lost in caves

Young boys in their soccer uniforms, sitting in a cave, shielding their eyes from a rescuer's light. This is one of the first images the world is seeing of a youth soccer team and their coach since they went missing 10 days ago in Thailand. "We found them safe," said Chiang Rai Gov. Narongsak Osatanakorn. But he cautioned: "The operation isn't over." The players, 11 to 16, and their 25-year-old coach had been stranded since June 23 in the Tham Luang Nang Non caves in Thailand's rugged, mountainous Chiang Rai province. It was not immediately clear when the group would be removed from the cave. Narongsak said the rescue was underway and conditions of the players were being evaluated.

Partisanship divides even our patriotism, new poll finds

As Americans, are we proud of our country? Sure! But are we proud of America right now? That depends on whom you ask. A new USA TODAY/Ipsos Poll about patriotism , pegged to this week's celebration of the Fourth of July, finds an overwhelming majority of those surveyed — 90 percent — say they are proud to be Americans. But they split almost down the middle, 42 percent to 39 percent, when asked whether they are proud of America right now. Not surprisingly, the split was along partisan lines: 71 percent of Republicans but just 22 percent of Democrats said they are proud of America right now. There was bipartisan agreement on one thing: Across party lines, roughly seven in 10 agree with the statement, "I feel fatigued watching the news."

A third accuser takes on Weinstein with new charges

Harvey Weinstein's criminal case in New York just got more serious: On Monday, Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr. announced three new sex-crime charges against him involving a third female accuser. Weinstein, 66, was once one of Hollywood's most powerful movie moguls. He has consistently denied any non-consensual sexual encounters with his accusers, now numbering nearly 90, who began coming forward in October 2017 with shocking stories of how he allegedly groped, harassed, coerced or raped them in episodes dating back decades and in locations around the world.

Michael Cohen: 'My silence is broken!'

Michael Cohen, former lawyer and fixer for President Donald Trump, seems willing to cooperate with special counsel Robert Mueller's Russia investigation, ABC's George Stephanopoulos said after in an interview with Cohen . "I put family and country first," Cohen said, according to the story posted by Stephanopoulos summarizing the conversation. Federal investigators have been looking into Cohen's business dealings, including payments to porn actress Stormy Daniels and other women who claimed they had affairs with Trump.

Prison can't hold this French gangster

Notorious French gangster Redoine Faid has done it again – escaped prison. Faid, who broke out of prison five years ago using explosives hidden in tissue packs, busted out of a prison near Paris on Sunday. In action-movie fashion, several men dressed in black with assault rifles landed in a hijacked helicopter, broke into the prison using a grinding machine and set off smoke bombs to evade video surveillance. Faid, who was serving a sentence for masterminding a robbery where a police officer was killed, took off with them.

LeBron to LA? It's all good

LeBron James' decision to leave Cleveland for Los Angeles has Lakers fans honking their horns in expectation of the four-time MVP restoring the franchise to the Showtime era of Kareem, Magic and Kobe. Not so fast: Even though James is arguably the greatest player of his generation, the Lakers are a middling team that now will have to retool their roster. And there's a real question whether James can co-exist with LaVar Ball, the verbose father of young point guard Lonzo Ball. For now, even Vegas is drinking the LeBron Kool-Aid: The Lakers have the second-best odds to be crowned 2019 NBA champions at 7/2. The Cleveland Cavaliers? They're 500/1.
