Happy 2018, OP fam! We hope you had a laid-back end to your December.

While there's no way to know all of the political goodies this new year will bring (though the president assures us it's going to be a "fantastic" one), we are certain of two things: we'll all continue to read Twitter like nobody's business and the midterms are sure to be a doozy.

What a time to be alive.

Keep up with latest here, get your friends to subscribe and let's go.

Tweet, tweet

After a largely eventful vacation down to Florida, President Trump had zero public events on the first non-holiday of 2018 (come on, y'all, he JUST got back yesterday).

Which meant plenty of time for tweets on Tuesday.

On Iran: "All of the money that President Obama so foolishly gave them went into terrorism and into their 'pockets.'"

On ex-Clinton aide Huma Abedin: "Crooked Hillary Clinton's top aid, Huma Abedin, has been accused of disregarding basic security protocols. She put Classified Passwords into the hands of foreign agents. Remember sailors pictures on submarine? Jail!"

On commercial flights: "Since taking office I have been very strict on Commercial Aviation. Good news - it was just reported that there were Zero deaths in 2017, the best and safest year on record!"

On Pakistan and the Palestinian Authority: "It's not only Pakistan that we pay billions of dollars to for nothing, but also many other countries, and others. As an example, we pay the Palestinians HUNDRED OF MILLIONS OF DOLLARS a year and get no appreciation or respect."

And, of course, on North Korea: "North Korean Leader Kim Jong Un just stated that the 'Nuclear Button is on his desk at all times.' Will someone from his depleted and food starved regime please inform him that I too have a Nuclear Button, but it is a much bigger & more powerful one than his, and my Button works!"

That was just Tuesday. Buckle up, kids, it's going to be an interesting ride.

Hatch out

2018 may have just begun, but best start preparing your goodbyes now to Sen. Orrin Hatch. The Utah Republican, who holds the title of longest-serving Republican senator ever, announced he will retire at the end of the year, joining a long list of people who are saying farewell to the congressional life when 2018 comes to an end.

"When the president visited Utah last month, he said I was a fighter," Hatch said in a video. "I was an amateur boxer in my youth and I've brought that fighting spirit with me to Washington, but every good fighter knows when to hang up the gloves and for me that time is soon approaching."

His announcement came after Trump asked him to run for re-election.

What happens next? Well, "Sen. Mitt Romney" might just become a thing.
